Type I and II Collagen: The Difference

Collagen is the main structural protein of various connective tissues and body parts in animals and humans. These include key organs including eye lens, artery walls, bone, intestine and skin. Total of 28 types of collagen has been identified and described so far.
Type I Collagen is the most abundant collagen in the body. It is found in skin, tendon, vascular ligature, organs, bone, teeth, artery walls and much more. Our bone and tendon are comprised of 98% type I collagen, and our skin is comprised of approximately 70-80% type I collagen. Type II Collagen makes up for 50% of all cartilage protein and is also found in space between lens and retina of the eye.
Type I Collagen supplementation is usually intended to maintain skin health and fight against visible signs of aging. Type II Collagen supplementation is usually for joint pain relief.

Collagen and Aging

As we age, our body’s natural production of collagen decreases, hence the signs of aging in skin, bones, joint and muscle. This occurs as early as the age of 30 and starts to accelerate in the 40s.
With age, skin cells that make collagen become less activated and replaced at a significantly slower rate. This disrupts the skin structural network, making our skin less hydrated, thinner and wrinkled. Bone turnover is also disrupted, with bone density loss exceeding bone formation. Collagen also plays an important role in cross-linking and strengthening bone structure. Abnormalities in collagen production could increase the risk of clinical disorders such as osteoporosis and osteoarthritis.

Type I Bovine Collagen Peptide
Nutridom Beauty Collagen provides highly bioavailable and soluble Type I bovine collagen peptide with 18 different amino acids profile. It is clinically proven, gluten-free, Kosher certified and Non-GMO.
Collagen peptides are small bioactive peptides obtained by breaking down collagen protein to a molecular weight of around 5,000Da from collagen protein 300-400kDa in size. This hydrolysis makes collagen much more bioactive, easily digestible and ready to be absorbed by the body.
