Khichuri Mix is a mixture of rice and nutritious pulses. 

Khichuri is the Indian equivalent of chicken soup. A wholesome and comforting meal, it is made with a combination of rice and either green or yellow lentils. Lightly spiced, it can be eaten plain or with curd.

Most of us have grown up eating khichuri when we are sick, so we tend to think of it as plain and boring. However, here are four surprising health benefits of khichuri that make it a great meal to eat even when you're well.

Khichuri is a wholesome meal that has the perfect balance of nutrients. The combination of rice, lentils and ghee provides you with carbohydrates, proteins, dietary fibre, Vitamin C, calcium, magnesium, phosphorus and potassium. Many people also add vegetables to it to enhance its nutritional value.

Khichuri soothes the stomach and the intestines, making it the perfect meal for when you're sick, but also a good change from food that is loaded with spices. It is also a healthy option for babies and elderly people, since it is both soft and nutritious.

People who are avoiding gluten either out of choice or necessity can safely eat khichuri since rice doesn't contain gluten.

Detoxifies Your Body  Apart from calming the digestive system along with detoxifying it, the ingredients in khichuri improve immunity and energy. *Moong dal khichuri has a low glycaemic index such that it helps bring down insulin, blood glucose and fat levels in the body which helps lower blood sugar levels and keep diabetes under control.


Wash the rice mix and keep it aside. 

Heat 4tb spoons of ghee (oil) of your choice, add chopped onions, when golden, add the spices , and fry for 2/3 mins. Add the khichuri mix and fry for another 5 mins until crispy dry. Add about 700ml of water. Let it boil and reduce heat and cook for about 30 mins until khichuri is cooked. ( May add extra ghee and cilantro leaves on top when serving ).
